I had a very difficult relationship with my dad, and although it wasn't anything as close to Shaun's - I would assume, because I haven't actually watched the series - but it had it's harsh and almost unforgiving moments. I was an angsty teen, struggling with things he did not understand and did not want to understand. He was the typical, traditional dad who held his feelings back to man up and just deal with issues head-on. And it drove us apart due to the sheer difference in our interests in personal views and in life over all. Now, that is not to say I didn't love my dad, he had many redeeming qualities that I adored him for. But at the time, I didn't because of our differences. I did not see or appreciate what he was trying to do for me. Two years ago, he passed away to jaundice, because he needed to be treated for that first before they could continue his cancer treatment. He bit the dust because of it. His body simply couldn't take it anymore. I wish I had the courage to wake him even when he was all drugged up and barely able to hear me; to tell him that I'm sorry for everything I've said or done. I know that he knew that when he passed, but it was still the matter of actually wanting to say it to his face, to have a good ending. I sat by him and felt like I was frozen, and I felt cowardice to wake him up. So, seeing this scene, where Shaun confronts his dad who's dying, strikes a bit of a nerve. Even if I had my issues with my dad, I would give the world to see him again and have a last conversation with him, for the sake of closure. The closure I never got to have, because I couldn't muster the courage to wake him from his rest. Rest in Peace, dad.
